NASCAR will return to San Diego in 2027, with the Cup Series and O’Reilly Auto Parts Series set to race again at Naval Base Coronado.
The weekend will run from July 30 to August 1, with the Cup Series taking to the 3.4-mile, 16-turn Qualcomm Circuit on August 1. The O’Reilly Series will race the previous day.
The return follows NASCAR’s first event at the active military base in 2026, which saw Corey Heim claim his first Cup Series victory. The 2027 circuit layout is expected to remain largely unchanged, although NASCAR plans to improve areas such as fan access, concessions and viewing experiences.
The 2027 race will also serve as the championship round of NASCAR’s five-race In-Season Challenge, giving the San Diego event an additional competitive significance.
However, San Diego is not intended to remain the permanent home of NASCAR’s military-base street race. NASCAR and the U.S. Department of Defense plan to move the event to another military installation from 2028 as part of a wider rotation.
NASCAR chief operating officer Ben Kennedy said the strong response to the inaugural event helped lead to discussions about taking the concept to other military locations, although the future venues have not yet been announced.
The Truck Series, which also raced at Coronado in 2026, will not return for the 2027 event.
